QUEBEC HOUSE PARTY BAND TUNEFEST!!! Usher in the fall season with a harvest of kitchen music from Québec and Acadie! In honor of Portland’s eighth annual Quebecois House Party (Oct. 13, 2017) Lisa Ornstein is offering three tune sessions on Saturday mornings Sept. 23, 30, and Oct. 7. We will put together some great kitchen music sets incorporating familiar standards with a few new tunes from Quebec and Acadie. All tunes will be learner-friendly AND you will get sheet music and recordings in advance!
WHAT WILL I LEARN? In these three sessions, you will learn 3 new tunes from eastern Quebec and New Brunswick (a jig, a reel, and a waltz). AND we will review, polish up, and put into medleys some favorite jigs, reels, and waltzes from the Portland Québec Jam’s classic hit tunes list.
HOW WILL I LEARN? The week before our first session, I will send all registrants a list of the tunes we will be playing, along with sheet music and mp3s. Tunes will be taught by ear at the sessions.
ALL MELODY INSTRUMENTS WELCOME. fiddle, whistle, flute, accordion, concertina, clarinet, banjo, whatever!
ACCOMPANIMENT INSTRUMENTS TOO: If you play guitar, bass, or piano, and want to learn back-up, you are welcome. I will have chord charts for the tunes we will be learning. One pianist only, though, so if you are interested, sign up now!
WHEN AND WHERE? The Sept. 23 session runs 9:30-11:15am at Scott and Kristin’s in SE Portland; the Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 sessions will run from 10:30am – 12:15pm at Lori and Bill’s in NE Portland (details furnished upon registration).
WHAT TO BRING? Please bring yourself, your instrument(s), and a recording device if you have one. I’ll have some kind of beverages and snack available…feel free to bring something to share if you wish!
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST: You can take all 3 Tunefest sessions for only $60-70 (sliding scale) or take 1 or 2 sessions for $25-30 (sliding scale) per session. Pre-registration is required!
