Seattle Cajun Tune Workshop Jan. 26, 2019

Laisse le Bon Temps Rouler!
WHAT: A Cajun Dance Tune Workshop
FOR WHOM: all instruments, singers, and accompanists
WHERE: Jeff’s home in Seattle (details furnished upon registration)
WHEN: Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 2-4pm
COST: $20-30 sliding scale (pre-registration required)
Lawrence Walker’s classic hit, “Laisse le Bon Temps Rouler” will be the focus of this workshop. It’s a learner-friendly Cajun waltz with a great set of hilarious, dead-pan lyrics (we’ll learn these first). Many Cajun songs, especially those set in waltz time, are pretty dang tragic–not this one! You’ll learn the basic melody, underlying chords, how to dress up that melody and improvise on it, how to do back-up harmony, and how to sing the words. If time allows, we can also do some honing and polishing on tunes from previous Seattle Cajun dance tune workshops..and you’ll also get a second, bonus take-home tune.

This is a great opportunity to both add to your Cajun music repertory AND up your stylistic game!
IS THIS FOR ME?: If you are able to get your way around your instrument on a dozen or more tunes without your hair catching on fire (or want to learn a Cajun song and have a set of vocal chords and a willingness to learn some Cajun French), can pick up simple tunes by ear (this one is very accessible), and have some background with OT, Cajun, French-Canadian, Irish, or contra tunes, this workshop is for you!

TO REGISTER: Either e-mail me to confirm your participation or pre-register via PayPal (see below).
